Happy Halloween!

Last week, we talked all about being safe on Halloween.  We wanted to make sure others knew how to be safe as well! So we made safety posters that we hung all around the school.
Some of the rules we came up with were:
1. Always trick or treat with a parent.
2. Let your parents check your candy.
3. Stay on the sidewalk.
4. Carry a flashlight.
5. Wear bright colors or a glow stick.
6. Don't go into peoples houses.
7. Only eat wrapped candy.
8. Make sure you can see out of your mask.

Friday was our Costume Parade! We made gargoyle bags to store all our candy.

A Tree for all Seasons

In Math, we're working on skip counting.
We traced our hands and glued them to popsicle sticks.
Then we used them to help us count by 5s and 10s.

To count by 2s, we used shoes!

We talked about adjectives all week.  On Thursday, we ate some popcorn and used our senses to come up with describing words about the popcorn. {source}

We learned about Maps last week as well.
We talked about and illustrated our planet, continent, country, state, town, and street.
Then we made our illustrations into a flipbook.

Last up is Science.  We talked about the different seasons all week.
Trees go through many changes during the year.
We used all kinds of art supplies to create a "Year Round Tree."
Check out our finished products!

Change It!

This week we learned a new game, called Change It.  You start with a word, then change 1 letter at a time, to make a new word.
We played as a class first and then played by ourselves in stations, later.
A couple weeks ago, we voted on who we'd like to come and read to our class.  Coach Myers won, so she came this week and read us The Pout Pout Fish in the Big Dark
We also worked on segmenting words.  We segmented our names and then sorted them by the number of segments.
We finished up our unit on weather this week.  On Tuesday we talked about clouds, so we used paper to create our own clouds.  Here's what our clouds turned into...

Thursday, we had a special visitor named Dowser Dan.  He taught us all about the water cycle, water conservation, and why water is important.
Ask me how I can help save water at home!

A Rainbow full of Nouns

We've been learning all about nouns.  Nouns can be a person, a place, or a thing.  We worked with our groups and each got a strip of colored paper.  We had to draw "things" that matched the color of our paper.
Then we taped them all together to make a rainbow!
Here's some close ups of some of our "things."
To finish it off, we wrote people and places on each of the clouds.
