Much to be thankful for!

Our class has so many things to be thankful for.
Check out these plates we made with our families.  They show some of the many things we are thankful for.

The whole first grade participated in a re-enactment of the First Thanksgiving.  Half of us acted as Indians, and half as pilgrims.

Chinese New Year

Last week we discussed the Chinese New Year.  We learned that they have parades at night.  They make dragon masks and carry lanterns. We made our own dragon posters.
We also tasted some traditional food. Here we are right before we taste our Edamame!

Groundhog Day

Tuesday was Groundhog Day!  We learned about the tradition of Groundhog Day and what it means if the groundhog sees his shadow.  We used toilet paper rolls to make our own little groundhogs!

Merry Christmas!

We had lots of fun getting ready for Christmas break, here in 1st grade.  We had some visitors come to our room the last few days.

Mr. Wallace came and read us his favorite Christmas story, The Night Before Christmas.

Santa and one of his elves came by our room and gave us all hats and scarves!

We had our Christmas party on Friday morning.  We had lots of yummy breakfast foods to snack on.  We saved our milk cartons from lunch and used them to make gingerbread houses!

Fire Safety!

We got a visit from the Fire Department.  The fire fighters taught us all about fire prevention and fire safety.  We know now that we should have a plan for what to do and where to meet if there is ever a fire at our house.

They talked to us about smoke detectors and alarms, and we practiced how to stop, drop, and roll.

The fire truck was really big! We are very lucky because we got to climb into the truck and see what it is like.
