Happy Thanksgiving!

Adding with Animals

We've started working on Addition!

We've been using Zoo Pals plates and objects we have around the house to practice.
The first number goes in one ear, the next number in the other ear.
Then you pull them both down to the face to find the answer!

Space Objects

We just finished up a unit on Space Objects.

First we talked about the Sun.  We learned that shadows come from the Sun.
We used Shadow Bears to measure the shadows at different times of the day.  The shadows moved.  We learned that the shadows changed because the Earth is moving and the Sun hits it at different angles.
Next we used chalk to trace our own shadows!
We put our arms and legs in different positions and watched how our shadows changed.
Liam tried out a Peter Pan pose. :)

Did you know the moon changes too?
We bit off pieces of Vanilla Wafers to show the different phases of the moon.
Then we traced the cookies so we'd remember the different phases!

The last day of our study, we talked about stars and constellations.  Here we are reading some of our "Star Stories."

Fire Safety!

We got a visit from the Fire Department.  The fire fighters taught us all about fire prevention and fire safety.  We know now that we should have a plan for what to do and where to meet if there is ever a fire at our house.

They talked to us about smoke detectors and alarms, and we practiced how to stop, drop, and roll.

The fire truck was really big! We are very lucky because we got to climb into the truck and see what it is like.

Fall Leaves

We've been learning all about the Fall season.

One of the most important characteristics of fall is all the leaves.

We brought leaves from home and found some outside to use for our projects.

Kate, Liam and Dominick are reporting on a special leaf

Javon and Mia just finished their leaf "fossils"

Ethan and Daniel are tearing paper to make leaves in the fall colors

Nadia and Ashley are gluing their leaves down on their trees

Andrew and Vicente just finished using crayons to create leaf rubbings

Halloween Parade!

We put on our Halloween Costumes last Friday to strut our stuff down the hallway!

From the green table:
Liam, Mia, and Daniel

From the red and orange tables:
Catherine, Dominick, and Javon

Kaitlynn, Vicente, and Nadia from the purple table

Our Dracula's from the yellow table: Darrius, Nyssa and Katelin

Kaitlynn helped us scoop the insides out of our pumpkin

Meet our Jack-o-lantern!

Graphing

We studied graphs for almost 2 weeks.  We learned all about real object graphs, bar graphs, picture graphs, and tally charts.

In these pictures, we are using Lucky Charms to make real object graphs.  When we were finished, we turned them into bar graphs! (And we got to eat the data!!)
